On Palm Sunday, as we commemorate Jesus's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, we're reminded of the importance of maintaining our gratitude and appreciation for God's forgiveness and grace in our lives.

Why Do We Sometimes Forget God's Goodness?

It's easy to become comfortable in our faith journey and forget where we came from. Life's challenges, church hurt, family issues, and past disappointments can create barriers that prevent us from maintaining intimate fellowship with God. When we forget what God has done for us, our praise becomes routine and our worship becomes circumstantial.

The Woman with the Alabaster Flask: A Lesson in Gratitude

In Luke 7:36-48, we find the story of a sinful woman who brought an expensive alabaster flask of fragrant oil to anoint Jesus' feet. This wasn't ordinary oil - it was a costly, precious possession that represented:

  • Her deep appreciation for Jesus
  • Her understanding of His worth
  • Her willingness to give her very best to Him
  • What Does True Gratitude Look Like?

The woman demonstrated true gratitude through:

    • Washing Jesus' feet with her tears
    • Wiping His feet with her hair
    • Continuously kissing His feet
    • Anointing Him with expensive oil
    • Her actions stood in stark contrast to Simon the Pharisee, who failed to show Jesus even basic hospitality. This teaches us that those who have been forgiven much, love much.

How Can We Maintain Our First Love for Jesus?

To maintain our gratitude and love for Jesus:

      • Remember where He brought you from
      • Don't get comfortable in your current spiritual state
      • Give Him your best, not just what's convenient
      • Stay humble by remembering His grace in your life
      • Maintain regular fellowship with Him through prayer and worship
      • Life Application

This week, take time to reflect on your spiritual journey and ask yourself:

        1. Have I forgotten what God has delivered me from?
        2. Am I giving God my best or just what's convenient?
        3. How can I demonstrate more gratitude for His forgiveness?
        4. Challenge: Write down specific instances of God's grace and forgiveness in your life. Each day this week, thank Him for one of these moments and let it fuel your worship and dedication to Him.

Remember: Don't let the routine of religion cause you to forget the relationship that saved you. Your gratitude should match the magnitude of His grace in your life.
